The Orioles gave the struggling Brooks Robinson & Boog Powell, the day off; the two are a combined 5-for-53! Paul Blair (.233) was showing life last game, got moved to the 3rd slot, as Frank Robinson moved down to the cleanup spot. The move paid off, as Blair went 3-for-5, 2B & 3 RBI, F.Robinson added two RBI & 2 hits. The top three spots in the order normally are Mark Belanger (.323), Don Buford (.313) & Frank Robinson (.310) -- the team overall is still batting below .200 at a dismal .165! Belanger started the season, batting in the 8th spot.

SV- Wicker (2)

George Selkirk's two-run single & Joe DiMaggio's second straight game with a two-run HR, kept things rolling for the Yankees. The Yankees' bullpen made things interesting during the top of the ninth, entering the inning up 8-2 -- the Yankees looking to get Frank Makosky & Pat Malone some work, while the Cards ended up scoring 4 runs; Kemp Wickers ended the bleeding with his second Save.

1946 Red Sox  6   15   0     F

Chicago (6-2) / Boston (2-6)

WP- J.Dobson (1-1)
LP- Blake (1-1)

The Red Sox' lineup seems to be waking up, with 29 hits (in the last two games combined) & four-run outburst in the bottom of the 1st. Dom DiMaggio went 4-for-5 (all singles) & RBI. Now if Boston can get Ted Williams rolling, who's only batting .219 in 32 at-bats & still searching for his first extra-base hit.

1937 Giants       3    8    2
1931 Athletics   13  14   0    F

New York (3-5) / Philadelphia (6-2)

WP- Hoyt (1-0)
LP- Gumbert (1-1)

The game was the complete opposite from Harry Gumbert's last outing (in which he hit 2 HR's as well), as he was knocked in the 3rd inning, allowing nine runs. The Athletics set a league record, 4 triples in a game; while three triples contributed to the 8-run third inning (2nd biggest scoring inning in league history). Mule Haas, went 3-for-5, 2 3B's, 3 runs & 2 RBI, while Al Simmons had a 3-run triple.

Baltimore (4-4) / Oakland (2-6)

WP- Tp.Martinez (1-0)
LP- Harang (0-2)

Eddie Murray's three-run HR in the top of the first, got things rolling for the O's early -- Athletics would tie the game late 4-4, with one of Mark Ellis' RBI doubles in the game. Aaron Harang ran into some problems as the Orioles score two in the ninth.

St. Louis (4-4) / New York (2-6)

The Yankees avoid the sweep with a walk-off double by Mike Gazella. Babe Ruth hit a solo HR, as the Browns' starting pitcher Sid Jakucki hit one of his own.
