WP- De.Martinez (2-0)
LP- S.Hamilton (1-1)

The Braves keep rolling after their season opening loss to the 1975 Reds, as the Braves came back from a 5-1 deficit entering the bottom of the 6th inning. Gerald Williams pinch-hitting for Micheal Tucker hit a 2-run HR to get things started, as Andres Galarraga got the Braves closer in the bottom of the 7th, with an RBI double. Galarraga would finish the job with runners on 2nd & 3rd, with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth, with a walk-off single that drove in Greg Colbrunn.

Dennis Martinez, once again in relief & for the second consecutive game is credited with the victory, as Steve Hamilton for the Giants couldn't close things out. The Giants started the season 3-0, and have been sliding since.

LP- L.Tyler (1-1)
SV- Gorman (2)

A game that was sloppy on fielding from both teams, shifted in the bottom of the eighth when Lefty Tyler lost control of the game & reliever Lefty Strand allowed a Grand Slam to Gene Woodling. The Braves are excited about their start to the season, but 6-1 would have been really nice.

Roger Bresnahan was a HR short of the cycle, going 3-for-4, scoring two runs with a steal -- while Art Devlin hit his first HR of the season, adding 3 RBI. Reggie Jackson has now hit a HR in three straight games, making it 3 for the season, tying Sal Bando's amount for the team lead.

Jeff Tesreau pitched a solid game of 5-hit ball in 8 innings, allowing only two runs as the Giants beat the Reds. Fred Snodgrass went 2-for-4 (double, triple) while Chief Meyers also had two hits with a clutch RBI double in the bottom of the 8th.

Pete Rose, entering the game 4-for-25 (.160), led the charge -- going 3-for-4 with a 2-run triple, as Marv Rettenmund added an insurance RBI double in the bottom of the 8th. Fred Norman pitched excellent, allowing only a run in seven innings of work.
Hoffman makes his 4th save, pretty dramatic.

1998 Padres   7   10   2
1984 Tigers    6   12   0     F

San Diego (4-3) / Detroit (5-2)

WP- J.Hamilton (1-1)
LP- Wilcox (1-1)
SV- T.Hoffman (4)

Greg Vaughn actually went homer-less in this one (leads league with 5), but still conflicted damage onto the Tigers with 4 ribbies. Tony Gwynn, hitless in his first three games, has been rolling since (added two hits & RBI) & Wally Joyner went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI. It was not a good day for Milt Wilcox, as he was all over the place, allowing 6 hits & 6 ER's while walking seven in 5 1/3 innings! The Tigers' bats tried their best to come back, but the damage was already done. Trevor Hoffman made things interesting, by walking the bases loaded, and then having to face Kirk Gibson (a master of the dramatics). Gibson would strike out.
