INJURIES: Jose Pagan (71' PIT) - 23 Games.
Bob Robertson's two-run homer in the bottom of the 6th gave the Pirates some breathing room, as the Pirates end the 1935 Pittsburgh Crawfords' league-record winning streak at 13 consecutive victories. For the Crawfords, it was their second game without Josh Gibson -- who was injured sliding into second base against the 1971 San Francisco Giants; Gibson won't be back until Game #50. Bill Perkins, Gibson's backup had two doubles in three at-bats.
Dock Ellis allowed only one earned run in a complete game victory over the Crawfords.

Darren Lewis's three-run double in the bottom of the 7th tied things up at 4-4 for the Giants, eventually forcing extra innings. Joe Collins of the Yankees would score in the go-ahead (winning) run in the top of the 12th, as he went 2-for-5 with a HR, 2 RBI & 2 runs.

The game was all knotted up 2-2 after nine innings on two solo HRs for the Dodgers (Campanella & Hodges), and Miguel Tejada was responsible for the other two run (one of them, being a solo HR). The Dodgers would score 5 runs in the top of the 10th, Jim Gilliam's triple broke the tie, when Carl Furillo grounded him in to score & Pee Wee Reese who came in to pinch-hit for Bobby Morgan, smacked a Grand Slam to put the game further out of the Athletics' reach.

The Phillies bounced back from their lousy series opener with a 4-2 victory. Down 2-1, the Phillies would follow the seventh-inning stretch with a two-run HR by Richie Hebner & a solo HR for Tom Sizemore. The White Sox kept hitters off the bases with Red Faber, who pitched 6 innings of 2-hit ball & one earned run allowed, until Reb Russell blown the lead.

The Blue Jays lived on the long ball in this one, count them -- five Home Runs, as George Bell led the way with two HR's (3 RBI), a two-run HR by Jesse Barfield, and solo HR's by both Jeff Burroughs and Al Oliver, who are usually coming off the bench, got rare starts.
