WP- Neagle (1-0)
LP- Hadley (1-2)

The Atlanta Braves jumped all over the Yankees early scoring their 12 runs in the first four innings (including a 8-run 3rd inning). The Braves had four HR's (Tucker's 2nd, Javy Lopez's 2nd, Andruw Jones' 4th & Galarraga's 4th); Andres Galarraga went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, while Andruw Jones went a perfect 4-for-4, 3 RBI & BB. The victory broke a four-game skid for Atlanta.

Lou Gehrig went 2-for-4 with a double & solo HR for the Yankees.

Montreal (7-8) / Cincinnati (6-9)

WP- Ju.Thompson (1-0)
LP- Sanderson (2-1)

The Cincinnati Reds got things rolling quickly by scoring four runs in the first inning, including Ernie Lombardi's two-run homer. The Reds have kept the Expos quiet, they'll be eying a sweep in the fourth game of the series.

Baltimore (7-8) / New York (8-7)

WP- Shocker (1-2)
LP- J.Palmer (2-1)

Babe Ruth did what's natural for him, going 2-for-4 with a Grand Slam and triple, 5 RBI & 3 runs. In an odd statistic, both Yankees' backup catchers Benny Bengough & Johnny Grabowski hit triples during the game -- catchers are not known for their speed.

1993 Phillies               11  16   0

Philadelphia (7-8) / New York (5-10)

WP- T.Greene (3-1)
LP- Schumacher (1-3)
SV- Mit.Williams (3)

The game for the most part wasn't anything close. The Giants first jumped off to a 3-0 lead after two innings, while the Phillies turned around and scored 10 runs the next four innings. The Tigers entered the bottom of the 8th with an 11-4 lead, during the next two innings the Giants would add eight hits -- plus Mitch Williams was one mistake away from blowing the save after giving up a two-run HR to Johnny McCarthy.

Damon Hollins joined three other record holders for two triples in one game, while Kevin Stocker also joined record-holders for four runs in a single ballgame; Stocker also went 3-for-5, 2 doubles & 3 RBI.

The Phillies are looking forward to a possible sweep of the New York Giants, next game.

1984 Tigers                4    6    1
1904 Giants                2    6    0     F

Detroit (10-5) / New York (10-5)

WP- W.Hernandez (1-0)
LP- Mathewson (2-2)

The Detroit Tigers join quite a few teams in this grouping of games, that is eyeing a sweep now, after their tough 4-2 victory. Tom Brookens had an early RBI triple in a rare start, Dan McGann helped get the Giants back into a tie with his two RBI. The Giants pitched Red Ames four innings in relief, and decided to use Christy Mathewson as a one-inning relief option in which he surrendered a two-run homer to Barbaro Garbey (brought in as a defensive replacement for Darrell Evans).

Milt Wilcox had his best start of the season, as he allowed only 1 ER in 6 innings of work, while Dummy Taylor of the Giants, pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 hits & 2 ER's, while striking out seven Tigers.

1935 Crawfords         7   11   1
1971 Giants               5    8    2     F

Pittsburgh (14-1) / San Francisco (5-10)

WP- Ro.Davis (3-0)
LP- Cumberland (2-1)
SV- Paige (3)

Josh Gibson who had the only cycle in league history, fell a HR short of another -- going 3-for-4, with 2 RBI. Roosevelt Davis, a surprise so far, had a shorter outing this time out (5 innings).
