San Diego (6-7) / New York (5-8)

WP- Seaver (2-2)
LP- K.Brown (0-3)/ CG (1)
SV- McGraw (2)

The Mets, not known for their pop, would get three HR's between Tommie Agee (a two-run HR) & Art Shamsky (both solo HR's) as New York spoils Kevin Brown's record breaking day of 13 strikeouts. Ken Caminiti had all three of the Padres' runs batted in.

Kevin Brown has 34 strikeouts for the season, during 28 innings of work in four outings -- but has a 0-3 record & 4.82 ERA.

Bill Carrigan, the regular starting catcher, came in as a reserve & helped the Red Sox win with his two-run triple in the top of the eleventh; Smokey Joe Wood delivered his second straight excellent performance with a complete game of eleven innings, 3 hits allowed, while striking out 8 Phillies in the process. Jerry Martin of the Phillies, hit his 2nd HR of the season (tying him with the team lead with Bowa & Johnstone).

WP- Rudolph (3-1)
LP- Quisenberry (0-2)
SV- Strand (2)

The Braves score three runs off of Dan Quisenberry in the top of the 11th to defeat K.C., Quisenberry has unfortunately has been put into this position before where he had to pitch more innings, and then got blasted for it -- two bad outings have bloated his ERA to 12.27! Joe Connolly of the Braves, hit his 3rd HR of the season, going 2-for-5 with 2 RBI.

INJURIES: Al Simmons (PHI) - 10 Games.

Bill Freehan scored the winning run on a fielder's choice, making it his 3rd RBI of the night, in which he hit his  6th HR of the season; Out of Freehan's eight hits this season, he has 6 HR's & 12 RBI (while only batting .160 in 50 at-bats). Jimmie Foxx had a big night for the Athletics, going 3-for-6, 2 HR's & double, plus four ribbies.

Unfortunately for the Athletics, Simmons got injured in the 13th, after showing life of breaking out of his slump the last few games & will be out for awhile.

1946 Red Sox     2    4    2
1985 Blue Jays   3    5    0    F / 10 Inn

Boston (4-9) / Toronto (6-7)

WP- Caudill (1-1)
LP- Klinger (0-3)

The leadoff spot seems to be the place to be for Ted Williams, who has been hitting better since moving to the spot, as he went 2-for-3, double, single & two BB's with an RBI & run, in a losing effort against the Toronto Blue Jays.

After a couple good outings, closer Bob Klinger looked as if he might be getting on track, until allowing a game-tying solo HR in the bottom of the ninth from Willie Upshaw (his 3rd HR of the season), Tony Fernandez's ground out would score in "Big Daddy" Cecil Fielder (of all people) in the bottom of the 10th. For Klinger, it's his 4th blown save & third loss.

                            R   H   E
1942 Cardinals    2    8    2
2001 Mariners      6    7    1    F

St. Louis (6-7) / Seattle (10-3)

WP- F.Garcia (2-0)
LP- M.Cooper (1-2)

The Mariners have now won 10 out of their last 11 games, as they continue to roll. Al Martin went 2-for-3, with 2 doubles & 3 RBI, as Freddy Garcia (2.31 ERA) had another strong outing.
