FINAL FOUR

It all comes down to this, the FINAL FOUR -- who moves on to the Championship Game?!

Game #61 - Final Four R H E
#1 1942 St. Louis Cardinals 1 4 0
#1 1927 New York Yankees 4 7 0 F
WP Hoyt (3-0) Next: Plays the winner of
LP M.Cooper (1-1) / CG (2) 1993 Phillies (#13) @
SV Pennock (1) 1904 Giants (#1) in
Championship Game.
HR Ruth (NYY) - 2 (3)
Gehrig (NYY) - 1 (2)

Waite Hoyt was on his A-Game, allowing only two hits through 8 innings, Marty Marion collected three of the Cardinals' four hits as the Cardinals' offense did nothing. The Yankees' Babe Ruth went 3-for-4 with two HR's, a double & 3 RBI. The game was close (1-0, N.Y.) entering bottom of 8th when Ruth connected on his 2nd HR, a two-run HR -- which was followed by a solo HR by Lou Gehrig off of Cardinals' starter Mort Cooper.

The 1927 Yankees move on to the Championship Game.

Game #62 - Final Four R H E
#13 1993 Philadelphia Phillies 4 5 2
#1 1904 New York Giants 2 5 0 F
WP D.West (3-0) Next: 1993 Phillies (#13) @
LP McGinnity (2-1) 1927 Yankees (#1) in
Championship Game.
HR Daulton (PHI) - 1
Hollins (PHI) - 1 (2)

The game was knotted up 2-2 entering the top of the 9th, when Dave Hollins led the inning off with a solo blast to right field. Darren Daulton, who had a HR in the top of the 7th to take a momentarily lead, hit a double following Hollins' HR, he would score off of Milt Thompson's sacrifice fly. Doug West would stay in the game for another inning of relief, instead of going with their closer Mitch Williams.

It appears that Cindarella (the 1993 Phillies) are heading to the ball to play the 1927 Yankees at Old Yankee Stadium -- while the 1904 Giants will empty their lockers and go to their homes tonight. The Giants only pitched two pitchers during the entire tournament in Christy Mathewson (who started the game) and Joe McGinnity, who lost the game in two innings of relief.
