(Game #20's)

1976 Dodgers    7   15   1
1906 Cubs          8   14   2    F  / 14 Inn

Los Angeles (8-12) / Chicago (14-6)

WP- Overall (1-1)
LP- Hough (1-2)

INJURIES: Joe Tinker - CHI (4 games) & Jimmy Sheckard (4 games) on collision, will miss their showdown against the 1998 Yankees.
REST: Orval Overall - CHI (1 game) & Charlie Hough-L.A. (2 games) for exceeding the RP's league rule limit.

A see-saw battle between the Dodgers & Cubs; Cubs took a 3-1 lead into the 6th, Cubs tied it 3-3, then took a 4-3 into the bottom of the 7th, in which the Cubs answered back with two runs for a 5-4 lead. Carl Lundgren who has been better as of late (in not blowing saves) blown the save in the 9th as Lee Lacy tied it up 5-5, forcing extras. Lee Lacy went 3-for-6, with a HR & two RBI's in a rare start for L.A.

The Dodgers would score 2 runs in the top of the 14th, with an RBI single by Davey Lopes (driving in Dusty Baker) and a ground out by Steve Garvey that drove in Charlie Hough (who had a single & actually stole 2nd base). Hough would pitch 5 innings in relief, he was very effective the first four innings, but would load the bases up (last two baserunners on walks) in which Harry Steinfeldt who has been tearing the leather off the ball, laced a two-run single to tie the game. With a runner in scoring position, the Cubs hit a ball towards left in which Bill Buckner must have lost the ball in the overcast sky (remember Wrigley doesn't have lights yet, otherwise I would have used that one)... Game Over, Cubs score on walk-off error.

Cubs' Harry Steinfeldt (Last 2 games): 8-for-10, 2 2B's, 3B, 4 runs & 6 RBI (plus one steal). He has emerged as the team's MVP this early part of the season.
