1969 Mets 5 6 0 F
Chicago (4-2) / New York (3-3)
WP- McGraw (1-0)
LP- Lundgren (1-2)
The problem with most "deadball" teams, there was no such thing as a designated "Closer" for their teams, many of their starting pitchers would pitch the entire game for the most part. The 1906 Cubs have 6 starting pitchers actually with an abundance of innings, Orval Overall is being used as a reliever & occasional spot starter, and have been using Carl Lundgren as the closer.
Lundgren has a 1-2 record now, one save with a awful 11.12 ERA & 2.294 WHIP in 5.2 innings. His victory, was a game in which he blown -- which makes it 3 blown saves. He loaded the bases up, walked in the tying run, and Donn Clendenon hit a walk-off sac-fly to seal the deal as the 69' Mets win. Clendenon finished the day with 3 RBI's, with a 2-run triple in the bottom of the 6th.
