Rangers Avoid Sweep, Raffy Hits 3 HR's

Palmerio: First to hit 3 HR's in single game.

Rafael Palmerio became the first player in league history to hit three HR's in a single-game, all solo HR's off three different pitchers, as Palmerio was locked in. George Foster hit 2 HR's for the Reds; a total of 7 HR's in the game by both teams (Rangers had 5 of them). Foster, who had the day off in Game #7, due to his struggles at the plate got his first runs, HR's & RBI's of the season in this series finale.

Palmerio, now is tied with Jorge Posada for the league lead in HR's with 6.

The Giants sweep Oakland, as Hooks Wiltse of the Giants only allowed 3 hits & 1 ER (while striking out 5 Athletics). Joe McGinnity came in for his first save of the season.

Billy Martin was on the top of his game, with a 3-for-4 performance, with 5 RBI, that included a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 5th that broke the game wide open for the Yankees.

Jim Turner & the Reds were in cruise control until the bottom of the 8th, in which the Giants scored three runs, tying the game; the Reds took back the lead 4-3 in the top of the 9th with Morrie Arnovich's pinch-hit RBI single, only to be topped off by the Giants' Larry Doyle's walk-off 2-run blast off of closer Joe Beggs.

Atlanta keeps rolling as they sweep the Giants. Walt Weiss went 3-for-3, 2B, 3B & 4 RBI, as Andres Galarraga has been nothing short of consistency with another good performance -- adding his 3rd HR & bringing his RBI total to 12 for the season.

The Red Sox, despite getting walked 7 times by Sid Fernandez alone in the first six innings couldn't get themselves across home plate, until the Red Sox scored two runs off of Rick Aguilera. Wally Backman continues his hot start with 3 hits in a losing cause, he now is 12-for-25 (.480 average) for the season.
