Joltin' Joe Smacks Two, 37' Yankees Win

The 1937 Yankees smacked four HR's (all off of Herb Pennock), with Joe DiMaggio leading the way, hitting his 3rd & 4th HR's of the season (4 RBI). Pitcher Red Ruffing helped his own cause by hitting a solo HR himself, plus a single; while Gehrig added his 2nd HR.

Andruw Jones's bat seems to be coming alive this series, as he added a solo HR, double & 2 runs to help Tom Glavine win his second game. Glavine allowed only 3 hits in 8 quality innings. Ellie Hendricks of the Orioles, finally got his first hit of the season (a solo HR).

The Cubs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, as Jimmy Sheckerd went 3-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 runs & a steal.

This game was all Andy Ashby, who has just been excellent in all three of his starts this season, throwing a one-hit, one run allowed performance in eight solid innings. Ashby is now 3-0, with a 0.82 ERA in 22 innings, while teammate Kevin Brown is sporting a 4.95 ERA for the season. Chris Gomez hit a rare HR for his first of the season.

Boston seems to have found a way to slow down the Phillies' bats (only nine hits in two games), as Daisuke Matsuzaka walks away with the victory despite allowing six walks. Manny Ramirez, who has been quiet for Boston those far, hit his first HR of the season.

Mike Cameron broke the game open with a three-run homer during the top of the six inning, as Bret Boone added a two-run homer in the seventh. Jamie Moyer allowed only one hit & one earned run through six innings.

INJURIES: Ripple (37' NYG) - 5 games.

Effective starting pitching on both ends, as Whitey Whitehead's sac-fly in the bottom of the eighth turns out to be crucial; The 1937 Giants lose Jimmy Ripple to injuries -- Ripple has been on fire, batting .395 with 15 hits, 4-for-6 in this series alone.

Jimmy Crutchfield was an on-base magnet, as he got himself four singles, the problem was the Crawfords had a problem getting the runners to home -- getting dragged through 10 innings, before Andrew Patterson's sac fly took the lead in the top of the inning. Crawfords keep cruising with league's best 6 game winning-streak.
