Two Places at the Same Time.

Gehrig's 1986 Topps edition by Izzy.

(Game #9's)

1927 Yankees     7   11   1
1937 Yankees     3    7    0     F

27' New York (3-6) / 37' New York (4-5)

WP- Hoyt (1-1)
LP- L.Gomez (1-1)

A world in which two Lou Gehrig's exist and in which two of the greatest teams ever collide. Waite Hoyt vs. Lefty Gomez, neither did great -- Hoyt escaped with the least damage (3 ER's in 6 Innings). 27' Yankees' Gehrig hit his 4th HR, a 3-run HR during the 5-run, 4th inning. There was also two Tony Lazzeri's for those who were keeping count.

                            R   H   E
1969 Orioles        8    9    1
1998 Braves        6    7    2     F

Baltimore (5-4) / Atlanta (7-2)

WP- Cuellar (2-1)
LP- Maddux (1-2)
SV- D.Hall (2)

The Orioles snap the Braves' league-best 7-game winning streak, as the O's got to Greg Maddux early with a 4-run top-of-the-first, that included Frank Robinson's 4th HR of the season  (a three-run homer). The Orioles got more out of their offense this time, but once again nothing from Boog Powell, Brooks Robinson & Davey Johnson --- who continue to struggle.

                           R   H   E
1906 Cubs          6   11   0
1960 Pirates       4    7    1    F

Chicago (6-3) / Pittsburgh (4-5)

WP- Mo.Brown (3-0)
LP- Friend (2-1)
SV- Lundgren (2)

The Cubs were trailing 4-3, when the Cubs' Frank Chance elected to bring in Art "Circus Solly" Hofman in to pinch-hit for Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown -- good choice, a two-run HR off of Bob Friend, which would be the reason for the W in the win column. Mordecai Brown, got roughed up a bit in this one with 4 ER's allowed in his shortest outing of the year (the other two starts, were complete games); his record now stands at 3-0, 1.88 ERA (1 Shutout) and is also among the strikeout leaders with 22 K's in 24 innings.

                          R   H   E
1986 Mets         3    7    0
1998 Padres      2    6    0     F / 12 Inn

New York (2-7) / San Diego (4-5)

WP- R.Anderson (1-1)
LP- Miceli (1-1)
SV- Orosco (2)

The Mets hang on to win only their second game, while battling through 12 innings. Doc Gooden was a little wild in this one with 6 walks allowed in 7 2/3 innings, while striking out five & only allowing three hits. Keith Hernandez was the star for New York, going 3-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI's & 2 BB's, as Ken Caminiti had a good eye at the plate for San Diego today, going 2-for-3, 2-run double & 3 BB's.

                            R   H   E
2007 Red Sox     0    1    0
1977 Phillies       3    3    0     F

Boston (4-5) / Philadelphia (8-1)

WP- S.Carlton (2-0)/ CG (2)/ SHO (2)
LP- Beckett (1-1)

The two studs in this game were the Phillies' Bob Boone (2-for-3, solo HR, double & 2 runs) & Steve Carlton, who has been dominant this season (2nd shutout), a no-hitter broken up with two outs in the sixth (Coco Crisp's single) & 7 strikeouts... all while adding a late eighth-inning sacrifice fly that would be the deciding run. Carlton's ERA is at an outstanding 0.38 through 24 innings!

                             R   H   E
2001 Mariners     3    8    2
1968 Tigers          2    5    1    F

Seattle (6-3) / Detroit (4-5)

WP- Rhodes (1-0)
LP- McMahon (0-1)
SV- Sasaki (5)

Tigers' Manager Mayo Smith needs to find answers for the Tigers' bullpen, as they blow -- yet another game! Denny McLain, left the game after allowing a solo HR to Edgar Martinez (his only run allowed), after 7 1/3 innings of work, that included 10 strikeouts. Top of the ninth, Mark McLemore hits a two-run double off of Don McMahon, after going hitless in his first four at-bats.

                           R   H   E
1912 Giants       8   15   3
1937 Giants       3    9    0    F

12' New York (6-3) / 37' New York (3-6)

WP- Mathewson (2-0) /CG (2)
LP- Hubbell (1-2)

The 1912 Giants would score all it's runs & 12 of it's 15 hits during the last five innings, as Christy Mathewson goes the distance, while also contributing with his bat, two singles & a RBI. Jo-Jo Moore was the star for the 1937 Giants, going 2-for-5 with a solo HR & triple.

Paige's Izzy Legends (1977 Topps).

                             R   H   E
1935 Crawfords    4    7   1
1940 Reds             1   6   0     F

Pittsburgh (8-1) / Cincinnati (3-6)

WP- Paige (3-0) /CG (3)
LP- B.Walters (0-2)

Judy Johnson's RBI double & Popeye Harris's two-run HR during the top of the sixth, turned the tide in this game, while Satchel Paige continues his dominance & his early bid for Cy Young. Josh Gibson would add his 3rd HR in the 8th Inning.

Satchel Paige's stat-line in four games of work: 3-0, 1.29 ERA, 1 SV, 3 CG (1 SHO) with 20 K's & one walk allowed in 28 innings pitched.
