(Game #14's)
1963 Topps of Vern Law.

1993 Giants         3   10   1
1960 Pirates        2    6    0    F

San Francisco (8-6) / Pittsburgh (4-10)

WP- Burkett (3-1)
LP- V.Law (1-3)
SV- Beck (2)

Two teams heading in opposite directions, the Giants win their 5th straight as the Pirates lose a league-record ninth straight. The 1960 Pirates started the season off 4-1 (that included a 3-1 series victory over the 1917 White Sox), but have been on the skids since. Not even a solo HR by their starting pitcher Vern Law could break their slump, their only regular Dick Groat (batting .345 for the season) seems to be consistent, and he has suddenly slowed down (1-for-7 of late) -- while the team is batting a low .213 for the season.

Meanwhile, The Giants are rolling since the return of Robby Thompson, the teams top 5 hitters:

1. Robby Thompson .367 (11-for-30), 3 HR & 8 RBI.
2. Will Clark .365 (19-for-52), 6 HR & 19 RBI.
3. Barry Bonds .354 (17-for-48), 4 HR, 13 RBI & 2 SB's.
4. Kirt Manwaring .326 (14-for-43), 1 HR & 5 RBI.
5. Willie McGee .311 (14-for-45), 6 2B's & 6 RBI.

1904 Giants          1    3    5
1984 Tigers          2    4    1    F

New York (10-4) / Detroit (9-5)

WP- Petry (2-2)
LP- McGinnity (3-1)/ CG (3)
SV- W.Hernandez (4)

Dan Petry had it going on, who almost pitches a complete game until giving up a solo HR to George Browne in the ninth; Petry went 8 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits & one run (all to Browne), while striking out only three batters -- for Browne, he fell a double short of the cycle. Darrell Evans leads the Tigers now with 3 HR's for the season, after his solo shot in the 6th inning off Joe McGinnity.

1937 Yankees      4    4    0
1998 Braves         1    5    1    F

New York (7-7) / Atlanta (8-6)

WP- Ruffing (3-0)
LP- Glavine (2-1)
SV- Chandler (1)

The Yankees now stand at .500 and on top of their division (Stars II/Musial Division), while the Braves have been handed their fourth consecutive loss. Frankie Crosetti seems to be doing the unthinkable, swinging for the fences, as he hits his 4th HR of the season (He only had 11 HR's in 611 AB's in 1937). Tommy Henrich hits his first HR (a three-run HR) during the top of the third, as Red Ruffing holds down the Braves for his third victory of the season.

1954 Indians        0    4    2
1995 Indians        3    5    1     F

54' Indians (5-9) / 95' Indians (6-8)

WP- De.Martinez (3-1)
LP- E.Wynn (0-4)
SV- Mesa (3)

Denny Martinez pitches six shutout innings of three hits allowed, as Albert Belle puts himself on the top of the league with 9 HR's now in the first 14 games.

1971 Athletics      3    4     0    F

71' Athletics (5-9) / 2002 Athletics (4-10)

WP- C.Hunter (1-2)/ CG (1)/ SHO (1)
LP- T.Hudson (0-4)

Dave Duncan drives in two more runs (a day after his 5-RBI performance), as Catfish Hunter shuts out the "Moneyball" Athletics, with 9 K's for the night.

1912 Giants         0    9    1
1975 Reds           2    7    0    F

New York (7-7) / Cincinnati (9-5)

WP- Billingham (2-1)/ CG (1)/ SHO (1)
LP- Marquard (0-3)

The Reds score two runs in the bottom of the first, and that is all Jack Billingham would need for his shutout, the Giants had their opportunities as they lose their third straight game. For the Reds, it would be their fourth straight victory, and now find themselves two games up in first place of the Stars III/Clemente Division.
