The Nationals had a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the 5th, when David Bell hit a two-run HR that gave the Mariners life. With two outs in the bottom of the 9th, and the Mariners trailing 3-2, Mike Cameron hits a solo HR off of Tyler Clippard to tie it. Bottom of the 11th, Craig Stammen now on the mound, after pinch-runner Al Martin stole 2nd, John Olerud hits a walk-off HR over the center-field fence, as Safeco Field erupts!

Keith Hernandez smacks a two-run homer in the third, to make it 3-0 Mets. Darryl Strawberry's three run HR during the top of the 8th comes in handy, as the Reds' Tony Perez hits bottom of 9th three-run homer -- but the Reds would come up short.

The boys weren't blessed this time around as the 1984 Tigers, who got passed the 1983 Orioles in the first round, couldn't get pass the 1969 Orioles. Despite the Tigers getting off to a quick start on Jim Palmer with Chet Lemon's two-run HR in the first, it was Ellie Hendricks' three-run blast in the bottom of the 4th that would come up big for Baltimore.

Despite blowing a late 6-3 lead in the bottom of the 8th, the Phillies score in the top of the 10th on a Pete Incaviglia triple, while Incaviglia scores on Mariano Duncan's sac fly. Duncan was too much for the Dodgers (batting 8th), going 4-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI & a run scored. Carl Furillo went 2-for-5 with 2 doubles & 2 RBI for Brooklyn.

The Padres held onto a 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the 6th, until Herb Moran broke up Andy Ashby's bid for a no-hitter with a solo HR (with one out) to right. Moran in real-life 1914, only had 1 HR in 549 AB's! Moran would reach base again on a single in the bottom of the 8th, steal second & would score on a error by Greg Vaughn dropping the ball in left.

The late-inning magic continues for the "Black Sox", the 2006 Tigers had a 1-0 lead, despite only three hits. Todd Jones blown the save by walking Nemo Leibold, Eddie Collins would single (moving Leibold to third) & then steal second -- "Shoeless" Joe Jackson delivers walk-off hit center to win the ballgame. |
